Bruntshiels Turbine

Application Reference: 11/04666/FULL
Proposal: Erection of wind turbine (19.25m high to blade tip)
Address: Bruntshiels Cupar Fife KY15 5LJ

We objected to the application which was for a small turbine in a very prominent and conspicuous location on a volcanic crag 189 metres above sea level in an Area of Great Landscape Value in the then St Andrews Local Plan and a Special Landscape Area in the now adopted St Andrews and East Fife Local Plan. The visual impact would have been disproportionately large when compared to the scale of the turbine. It would be seen on the skyline from many viewpoints over a wide area and the impact on landscape and visual amenity was unacceptable.

We supported the many local people in Baldinnie and elsewhere who objected to the proposal.

The application was recommended for conditional approval but refused by the North East Fife Area Committee. The applicant appealed this decision to Scottish Ministers and a reporter was appointed to determine the appeal.

The reporter dismissed the appeal and refused planning permission.
